Though we may be familiar with mindfulness, and perhaps felt the positive effects from meditating, our most intimate of relations often do not experience its fruits. We often take for granted, forget to appreciate, focus on faults rather than strengths, and listen halfheartedly to those near and dear to us.
Recently we completed a 4-year silent meditation retreat together. During this time we learned much about the simple things we forget about in relationships, and how the practice of mindfulness and of mindful communication can reawaken sensitivity and reinspire our connections with loved ones. This evening we will share what we learned on our journey, and share a couple of simple uplifting relational mindfulness exercises.
