April 30, 2017   NEW DATE

Dorchester, MA – Mindfulness Meditation Practice Day – Susan Morgan, MSN, RN, CS

Well placed days devoted to meditation practice help us refresh, renew, and recover a sense
of balance to the bodyheartmind that is hard to find when caught in the whirlwinds of
everyday life.

May 29 – June 2, 2017

Galway, Ireland – Adapting Mindfulness for the Western Mind: An Educational Retreat, 3rd Annual NEEI Ireland Symposia – Bill Morgan, Psy.D.

Therapeutic presence is a core attribute of our profession, and one which mindfulness practice can deepen. However not all mindfulness instruction and practice will cultivate the kind of holding environment we are looking for. Mindfulness is practiced primarily as a cognitive exercise lacking affective engagement. This form of practice will have limited benefit for ourselves and our clients. It is the primary reason why so few people meditate on a regular basis.

After establishing a theoretical understanding of the cause of suffering and its treatment in Buddhist psychology, participants will learn a wide range of mindfulness techniques which will be useful both in deepening therapeutic presence and teaching clients. These techniques will include body awareness, self-compassion, concentration, open awareness and inquiry practices. Limitations of these various forms of practice and ineffective ways of practicing will be explored. We will examine ways to personally enliven mindfulness practice, so that both we and our patients are more likely to practice in a rich and meaningful fashion.

Our time will be equally divided between lecture and guided meditation. It is through cumulative practice sessions during this symposium that mindfulness and therapeutic presence will deepen.

While this course is suitable for seasoned mindfulness practitioners, no prior experience with meditation is required.

June 30 – July 4, 2017

Barre, MA – The Factors of Awakening: A Retreat for Mental Health Professionals – Bill & Susan Morgan

Although essential for practice, mindfulness is not the only mental factor to be cultivated. The seven factors of awakening are mental qualities to be developed and used to counteract mental states that cause suffering. These factors regulate and stabilize mindfulness. As they are engaged, practice comes alive in a more wholehearted way. During our time together, didactic modules, group discussions, and mindful communication exercises will be offered. Apart from this, silence is observed, including during meal times to facilitate a deeper contemplative experience. Mornings and evenings will be devoted to guided sitting and walking meditation. Sunday is a full day of mindfulness practice (with instruction) and an opportunity for individual meetings.

Cultivating the Inner Holding Environment: An Intensive Mindfulness Retreat for Mental Health Professionals – Bill Morgan, Susan Morgan, and Ron Siegel

This week we will study and practice setting up the internal environment conducive for making progress in mindfulness meditation. In our experience, practitioners in this cognitively oriented and high stress culture frequently struggle in this area. We will offer many instructions and guided meditations designed to create a personally meaningful and enriching environment in which mindfulness practice may flourish.

Working with Challenging Mind States and their Antidotes: An Intensive Mindfulness Retreat for Mental Health Professionals – Bill Morgan, Susan Morgan, and Willa Miller

Join us for a different kind of retreat, one that brings Theravada (vipassana) and Tibetan perspectives into conversation and into practice as we work with challenging mind states and their antidotes. Joining us is Willa Miller, a Buddhist teacher (lama) who has studied and practiced extensively in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and who is committed to making meditation psychologically relevant and accessible to caregivers in our culture.

A discount is available to those who register for both weeks.

Wonderwell Mountain Retreat Center, Springfield, NH – The Art of Relating Mindfully: Freshening up our Relationship – Bill & Susan Morgan

This workshop offers a chance to remember, renew and refresh your relationship. Here you will have the opportunity to relax, reflect and re-connect with your partner. We will aim to widen our compassion to include more of our own vulnerabilities and those of our partner, and to deepen our capacity to both offer and receive love. Together we will learn strategies for avoiding these tangles and getting out of them more quickly once they arise.
